Tanya Williamson
As a science classroom teacher for almost 17 years, Tanya has extensive experience teaching students in all pathways (K-12; LEAP, essential, applied, academic and IB) in both a face to face and online environment. She has used a balance of technology, outdoor experiences, and inquiry-based learning to create meaningful and engaging lessons for students.
In her former role as the acting Secondary Science Instructional Program Leader for the Halton District School Board, her responsibilities included setting direction in areas of 21st century learning, eLearning, assessment and evaluation, collaborative inquiry and applied learning strategies. This role also involved mentoring numerous science teachers by providing classroom and resource support for educational technology, behaviour management, assessment and evaluation, curriculum implementation and differentiated instruction.
Tanya currently holds the role of eLearning Contact for HDSB and supports technology enhanced learning in secondary schools across all subject areas. Tanya has facilitated the online Intermediate Science ABQ course at Ontario Tech for the past 4 years. She holds an Honours B.Sc. from McMaster University, B.Ed from the University of Windsor and M.A in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) with a research focus on integrating science with place-based environmental education and student activism.
Away from work, Tanya is a community field hockey and ice hockey coach. In line with her passion for environmental education, she volunteers with the Field and Stream Rescue Team in Halton Region and is actively involved in community restoration projects.
